Call for Management Board members

Refugees and newcomers from around the world are building a new life in Ottawa and in Canada, and helping to build new communities in the process.  Refugee 613 is seeking motivated individuals to join our Management Board to help advance our vision that everyone is thrives in a welcoming world.

Refugee 613 is an agile and innovative communications hub that informs, connects and inspires people to support this vision. Evolving from a grassroots response to the Syrian refugee crisis in 2015, Refugee 613 has grown into an established, well-regarded communications hub where refugee newcomers and those who support them as volunteers or professionals can come for information, training, connections and partnership. The organization seeks and receives input from a large and diverse stakeholder group of organizations and individuals supporting newcomers.

Funded by government and foundation program grants and gifts from community members, we are currently incubated and sponsored by the Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO).  The Refugee 613 Management Board was formalized in 2019 and has worked to develop its governance and management structure to move the organization forward towards our next step of registering as an independent non-profit organization.

We are seeking Management Board members to work alongside our dedicated staff to actively help us achieve this goal. Board members are appointed for a two-year term (renewable), to provide guidance, strategic insights and practical support for achieving our mission. They also serve as community ambassadors for the organization and are expected to participate in monthly board meetings, and participate on at least one of our three working committee: Finance, Human Resources, and Governance and Risk.  We are particularly interested in applications from candidates with skills in human resources, fundraising and non-profit legal oversight.

If you would like to participate, please send your application to info@refugee613.ca by June 6, 2022.

Your submission should include a letter of interest identifying why you are a great fit for our Board and a résumé outlining your qualifications.

Refugee 613 is fully committed to equity and wants to ensure diversity of national origin, race, religion, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, and all other characteristics that make us unique and different. We welcome all applications, and in particular we encourage anyone with lived experience as an immigrant to Canada to apply, as well as people from racialized or marginalized communities.

Nominations will be reviewed by a selection committee, with the position starting on July 1, 2022.

If you have questions about this opportunity or about Refugee 613, please email us at info@refugee613.ca and we’d be happy to connect.
