Join our Management Board and Governance Committees!

Do you have skills in finance, HR, non-profit leadership, governance, or fundraising? Are you looking for an opportunity to donate some of your time and talent to a dynamic young organization making a tangible difference in our community?

Refugee 613 is seeking motivated individuals to join our Management Board to help advance our vision that everyone thrives in a welcoming world. Since our founding, we have been hosted by a local settlement organization. Now, in the leadup to our 10th anniversary in 2025, Refugee 613 is thrilled to be on the cusp of registering as an independent non-profit and applying for charitable status. We need energetic Management Board members and governance volunteers to work alongside our dedicated staff and help us achieve this exciting goal!

Ours is a working Board. That means Board members provide some practical support in addition to their guidance and strategic insights. Board members attend our (efficient and effective!) monthly Board meetings by Zoom. They also commit to contributing a few hours a month to one of our Board committees (Finance, HR, Governance and Risk), where they work alongside staff to accomplish key tasks related to developing organizational policies and processes.

The time commitment for a full Board member is about five to seven hours a month, often less. You could also consider volunteering for a governance committee instead. There you would focus on applying your professional skills in human resources, non-profit finance or fundraising in a practical way as you collaborate with staff to build our capacity.

Either way, join us and feel the Refugee 613 difference! You’ll be working with caring, warm and positive staff and Board volunteers, most of whom are immigrants themselves. We believe in getting things done while having a good time together, as we build a better Ottawa and stronger Canada.

If any of these roles appeal to you, please send your application to info@refugee613.ca by June 24, 2024. Your submission should include a letter of interest identifying why you are a great fit for our Management Board or governance committees and a resumé outlining your qualifications.

Refugee 613 is fully committed to equity and wants to ensure diversity of national origin, race, religion, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation and all other characteristics that make us unique and different. We welcome all applications, and in particular we encourage anyone with lived experience as an immigrant to Canada to apply, as well as people from racialized or marginalized communities.

Nominations will be reviewed by a selection committee, with the positions starting in August, 2024.

If you have questions about this opportunity or about Refugee 613, please email us at info@refugee613.ca and we’d be happy to connect you with our Director or a current Management Board member for a conversation.
