Thank You for Celebrating 10 Years of Welcome
On October 20th we gathered to celebrate Refugee 613’s 10th anniversary. It was inspiring to see so many people who have helped make Ottawa a more welcoming city over the past decade.
Your presence reaffirmed why Refugee 613 continues to evolve: to connect people, amplify voices, and strengthen the networks that make a welcoming Ottawa possible. It was a further reminder of how powerful it is when communities come together with a shared goal, especially in times of adversity.
This milestone was a moment to take stock, to reflect on our collective accomplishments and the relationships that have sustained this work - from mobilizing volunteers and sponsors to shaping national conversations on refugee welcome, our journey has always been powered by collaboration.
As we look ahead, we’re carrying those lessons with us. Building a welcoming city isn’t one big action, it's the countless small, everyday choices that build trust, belonging, and sharing stories that inform, inspire and connect.
So, if you weren't able to join us on the day, we still want to hear from you!
However big or small your experience, your story can inspire others. Share your story of welcome below, and be a part of our continued celebration.
Perhaps you are…
-
A new arrival who found safety and support in Ottawa
-
An ordinary resident who gathered your friends to sponsor a refugee
-
A volunteer who has helped a local organization supporting refugees
-
A service provider who has seen the power of collaboration
-
A local community or religious leader or elected official who made refugee welcome a priority
