Join the Refugee 613 Board of Directors

Do you have skills in finance, human resources, non-profit leadership, governance, or fundraising? Ready to offer your time and talent to a dynamic grassroots organization making a tangible difference in our community?

Refugee 613 is seeking three motivated volunteers to join our Board of Directors to help advance our vision that everyone thrives in a welcoming world. As Canada’s leader in migration communications, Refugee 613 is an innovative communications hub that informs, connects and inspires people to welcome refugees and build strong communities. As we approach our 10th anniversary in October 2025, Refugee 613 is looking for energetic Board members to work with our dedicated staff to continue our work closing information and connection gaps locally in Ottawa and with partners across Canada.

Based in Ottawa, Board members provide strategic advice, governance and financial oversight as well as practical support developing policies and processes. We have efficient and effective monthly Board meetings by Zoom. Members also commit to contributing a few hours a month to one of our Board committees (Finance, Human Resources, Governance & Risk). The time commitment for a full Board member is about five to eight hours a month.

Join us and feel the Refugee 613 difference! You’ll be working with compassionate, energetic, and dedicated staff, many of whom are immigrants themselves. Together, we are building a better Ottawa and a stronger Canada.

📅 If you’re interested in joining our Board, please send your application to careers@refugee613.ca by August 8, 2025 at 5:00pm EDT.

Your submission should include a letter of interest identifying why you are interested in working with our Board and a CV outlining your skills and expertise. We are particularly interested in people with a Chartered Professional Accountant designation or other senior financial certifications, experience in non-profit governance and strategic planning.

Refugee 613 is fully committed to equity and strives to ensure diversity of national origin, race, religion, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation and other characteristics that make us unique and different. We welcome all applications, and we encourage anyone with lived experience as an immigrant to Canada to apply, as well as people from racialized or marginalized communities.

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee, with the Board appointment starting in September 2025.

If you have questions about this opportunity, please email us at careers@refugee613.ca and we’d be happy to connect you with a Board member.
